imageIn the last 2 days, we’ve seen a whole lot of Android 4.0.4 goodies. First, Google unleashed the Android 4.0.4 AOSP code, then followed up by sending out incremental OTA updates to the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, and XOOM Wi-Fi. Maintaining the momentum, today our favorite Android release engineer JBQ today put together full OS images for the GSM Nexus S and GSM Galaxy Nexus, which can be used to completely restore compatible devices back to stock.

Did a flash go wrong? Did you wipe /system by accident? Don’t have an upgrade path to 4.0.4? Don’t …

T-Mobile may launch HTC One S on April 22nd

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

The HTC One S may launch on the nation’s fourth largest network on April 22nd, according to a purported internal screenshot obtained by TmoNews. The One S features an ultra-thin 7.9-millimeter case that houses a 4.3-inch qHD AMOLED display, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, a 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of internal storage and runs Sense 4.0 over Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It should be noted, however, that in the past T-Mobile has typically launched devices on a Wednesday or Friday, and not Sunday, a day on which rate plan changes usually come. The leaked screen capture can be found after the break.

Google Drive To Offer 5GB Of Free Storage?

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

Google has been rumored to launch its Google Drive product for quite awhile. Most recently, we heard the product is set to launch in early April, but we’re still waiting on official word from Google. Tonight, it’s been revealed that Google Drive may offer its users 5GB of free storage when first signing up.

Talk Android’s tipster has provided a screen shot of the Google Drive beta page, that says “You get 5GB from the start, and you can upgrade to get more space at any time.” It was previously reported that Drive would offer 2GB of storage at start, but hey, the more the merrier.

The screenshot also reveals that Google Drive will sync on all platforms, including Android devices. It’s not yet clear if Drive will be fully integrated on the OS level or just available through an app on the Google Play Store.

Google Drive will work similar to current market leader, Dropbox, allowing users to simply sync files to the cloud though a web interface and apps. Google Docs has had the ability to save any type of file, but doesn’t offer a great way to manage those.

At any rate, it appears that Google is getting even closer to launching their Drive product. We’re really hoping for next week sometime. Stay tuned!

Auralux Poised To Hit The Tegra Zone In April, Bringing Together Osmos-Like Minimalism And Galcon-Inspired Real-Time Strategy

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

auralux_appicon_95

The Tegra Zone is set to get one more amazing game next month, with the minimalist strategy game Auralux coming down the pipe. Auralux, which promises to have "every feature and more from the renowned PC game," combines the minimalist, otherworldly environment/music of Osmos with the real-time galactic strategy of Galcon for what looks to be a stunning experience.

Describing itself as "an abstract, essentialized, and simplified real-time strategy game," Auralux gives players individual units, each of which can only carry out one type of command. The player and his/her opponent start each game with equal resources, and are challenged …

Ice Cream Sandwich Beta Released For Sony Xperia Play

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

Owners of the Sony Xperia Play, get your thumbs ready for some beta testing. Tonight, Sony has released a public beta for Ice Cream Sandwich that runs on the Xperia Play. Sure, it was available through custom ROMs, but nothings better than an official release. Sony wants your help testing the software.

Most importantly, Sony wants beta testers to try the gaming controls on the Play and see how they work. Specifically they ask: “Did the buttons work properly?” and “Did the touch pads work properly?” The company didn’t say for which version of the Xperia Play this is for, so be weary of issues.

No time frame has been given for an official release, but hey, your feedback will help push things forward. Sony has posted full instructions for installing the ROM on its developer portal. Note for you hacker types: you can’t root this beta.

Although the last update to the Amazon App Store brought us all the ability to go ahead and disable notifications it really didn't work all that reliably. Science fiction and fantasy when the awesome has become ordinary

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

SyFy network logo

We live in a world where devices that were recently considered the domain of a future yet-to-come now live in our pockets and backpacks. This isn’t cause for creators of fiction to rest on their laurels, however; it’s actually an important opportunity, one that Alyssa Rosenberg of Think Progress says the SyFy network is missing in its switch to fantasy-themed programming following the demise of Battlestar Galactica. While television is often driven by cultural and programming trends, it’s hard to argue with Rosenberg’s point that the network is doing viewers a disservice by relying on the well-worn instead of using today’s reality as the jumping-off point for exploring new visions of our collective future. If you’re interested in…

Google Wallet update now available with bug fixes and privacy enhancements

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

Google Wallet

The latest Google Wallet update has now appeared on the Google Play Store and is rolling out for some folks. Switching on over and checking out the change log shows a few things have been cleared up within the app including some bug fixes and privacy enhancements:

  • Prepaid Card top up forms more flexible
  • Citi Mastercard management improvements
  • UI improvements

There's a link after the break to the Market, but keep in mind, it only will work if you've got a Sprint Nexus S 4G or an unlocked Galaxy Nexus with an AT&T SIM card in it. You'll have to use some other methods to get it working if you're not on one of those devices specifically.

T-Mobile reportedly pursuing tower sale for up to $3 billion

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

T-mobile store logo (1020)

T-Mobile is apparently looking to do whatever it can in order to raise enough money to continue on as an independent entity. In addition to massive job cuts, Bloomberg reports that the company intends to sell a large number of cell towers, as many as $3 billion worth, as quickly as possible. The move will bring in more cash on top of the $4 billion in cash and spectrum it received in the wake of AT&T’s failed takeover. T-Mobile told All Things D that it was evaluating a “tower sale as part of its self-funding strategy,” but didn’t confirm any details.

The overall strategy is apparently to make T-Mobile “self-funded,” which is to say able to stand on its own two feet independent of parent company Deutsche Telekom. The strategy of selling…

Amazon Appstore Updated To Version 2.3, Download Limit Gets A Much Needed Increase

Published on 03/29/2012 by in News

For those of you using the Amazon appstore to get your free-app-of-the-day, you’ll be happy to know they have increased the maximum application size that can be downloaded over a mobile connection from 20MB to 50MB. This change comes in the latest update to the appstore and will now give you the convenience of downloading that must have app while on-the-go and away from a WiFi connection.

This latest update also fixes the issues with app update notifications still popping up even after you’ve disabled them. You’ll also find the standard “bug fixes and stability enhancements,” in this latest update and we always love to see those.

You should get a notification of the update soon (ironic isn’t it), but if you can’t wait, you can always check for it by going to the Appstore app > Settings > Version and Release Notes > Check for Updates. We’ll let you get back to downloading those free apps now. Enjoy.
