The Vonage Mobile app offers free talk and text for corresponding with fellow app users worldwide by way of WiFi or data connection. Need to update app-less Auntie Em while backpacking through the Swiss Alps? The outfit says it'll save you 70% over major carriers and costs 30% less than Skype. For calls to folks without the app, users can add calling credit in either $4.99 or $9.99 increments right from the iTunes store or Android Market. The software also makes use of your existing number and extensive list of contacts without the need to create another username. Right now, calls to any phone in the US of A, Canada or Puerto Rico are free from the app for a limited time -- so long as you stay under 3000 minutes per month, of course. Hit the source link or PR below for more information before heading to your app repository to snag the free download.

Continue reading Vonage Mobile app allows free calls and texts worldwide to fellow Android and iOS users

Vonage Mobile app allows free calls and texts worldwide to fellow Android and iOS users originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 14:12:00 EDT. In addition to syncing all notes with SkyDrive, the app allows users to open notebooks from OneNote 2010. Android 2.3 is necessary admission for this one, and naturally, all users must have a Windows Live ID. So, Google, are you going to just stand there and let Evernote and Microsoft have all the fun?
Microsoft's OneNote Mobile takes up roost in the Android Market originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 08:04:00 EDT. Like the iOS version, the app is free to try -- which allows tire kickers to create up to 500 memos -- but after the limit is reached, you'll need to plunk down $4.99 or be forever stuck in read-only mode. In addition to syncing all notes with SkyDrive, the app allows users to open notebooks from OneNote 2010. First and foremost, we were greeted with a new, darker interface that better matches Honeycomb's design philosophy, along with a refreshed icon that more closely resembles the messaging app in Ice Cream Sandwich. There's also a curious new feature known as asynchronous SMS, which allows you to queue up messages for later delivery when you happen to be without signal. To test this out, we put our handset into airplane mode, fired off a few texts -- which showed up as queued -- and then took our phone back onto the network. Once back online, the messages were delivered as expected. And hey, it can't get much better than that, really.
Google Voice update for Android brings design refresh and asynchronous SMS originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 07 Feb 2012 18:39:00 EDT. For the bad news this weekend, we have Google losing an appeal in Taiwan. You may remember last June, when Google had some major issues with the Taiwanese government. Due to a local law, companies are forced to give customers a 7-day refund window for products and services. When asked to extend their 15-minute app refund policy to the said amount of days, Google did not hesitate to say “Oh no, you didn’t!”

It was interesting that Apple and Microsoft (usually more strict about this) decided to comply with Taiwan’s request. But Google never backed down from its 15-minute policy.

Since then, Google has not been selling any apps to Taiwanese Android users, leaving them with access only to free applications. It seems like our fellow Taiwanese friends will be stuck in this position for a while longer. And was forced to pay a fine, which did not add up to much money (of course, relatively).

After paying NT $1 million (about 34,000 US dollars), the appeals began. As usual with courts, these matters take a long time, and it has finally concluded today, with Google’s loss.

We do not yet know how Google will respond to this. We certainly believe that the 15-minute window is a bit too short. Many applications and games take longer just to be installed. This leaves many Android users with a bitter taste. Many would believe that a 7-day refund window is a bit too extended, though.

We will have to wait to see what Google has to say about this, but for now, give us your opinions! Are you on Taiwan’s side? What do you think would be an ideal refund-window for Android Market applications?

To celebrate the end of the season and Sunday's big game, the publisher has reduced the price of Madden NFL 12 to 99 cents in the U.S.

Europeans aren't being left out of the action, either -- the price of the international version has been dropped too, and now costs just 59 pence in the UK. Unfortunately it seems the game isn't compatible with the Galaxy Nexus just yet, but a quick glance down the list of supported devices reveals pretty broad compatibility elsewhere.

We've got European and North American Android Market links for all you football fans after the break.

Thanks, bbjonez!
