Future versions of Apple’s iOS operating system may incorporate new fitness sharing technology, according to a patent uncovered by AppleInsider. The new technology will encourage users to be more competitive by allowing them to share and compare their performance in real-time with other users around the world. The patent, which was filed only three months ago, builds upon the functionality of the Nike+ iPod system, which allows a user to complete his or her workout and then upload and share the results with others. The research firm found that Samsung remained the top mobile phone vendor in the fourth quarter with a 25.3% market share — the same share as it held in the third quarter. LG’s market share dropped 0.6 percentage points to a 20% share for second place followed by Motorola, which fell 0.5 percentage points to 13.3%. February 2nd, 2012 Zach Epstein Apple has no plans to hold a media event in February according to a new report. Loop Insight’s well-connected Jim Dalrymple on Thursday debunked part of a rumor that began circulating early Thursday morning. The original report claimed Apple had plans to hold an “unusual” media event some time this month that would not be product related, and then its highly anticipated iPad 3 would be unveiled at a separate event in early March. February 2nd, 2012 Zach Epstein Following the fall launch of its wildly popular iPhone 4S last year, Apple reportedly plans to return to its summer launch schedule and unveil the next-generation iPhone 5 during its annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June. DigiTimes relayed the claim, which cited a Daiwa Securities analyst when it first appeared in Chinese-language newspaper Commercial Times on Thursday. The continued use of glass-to-glass touch panel technology in the iPhone 5 is the only other detail noted in the report. Apple’s next-generation iPhone is expected to feature a completely redesigned case that utilizes a unibody aluminum architecture much like Apple’s iPad.
