Samsung Galaxy S4 sees first complete firmware leak

Published on 04/25/2013 by in News

Galaxy S4

Firmware version I9500ZCUAMDG comes complete with all Odin files

With every big phone release comes a software leak just ahead of launch day. Today, it’s the Samsung Galaxy S4‘s turn to show us the software. AdamLange of XDA Developers has been kind enough to post the first leaked version of Galaxy S4 firmware, in its complete form.

Samsung users that have installed custom firmware on their devices before are already familiar with Odin, a Windows application that allows firmware to be flashed on Samsung phones via USB. This Galaxy S4 leak comes complete with all the Odin files, namely the CSC, PDA and modem. This particular software is intended for the Chinese market; as time goes on and more leaks are obtained, they will be posted in AdamLange’s thread.

Flashing stock firmware via Odin is a sure bet for getting Samsung phones back to factory condition and fixing any problems that may arise from installing custom firmware. Those that like to root and flash ROMs and kernels on their phones should definitely have a stock Odin package ready to go — just in case. Keep an eye on the forums for the latest how-to guides and lists of flashable goodies, as them become available.

First Sony Xperia Z firmware update hitting some devices in Europe

Published on 03/22/2013 by in News

Sony Xperia Z

It seems Sony’s Xperia Z is in the midsts of its first official firmware update. Xperia Z owners in Europe are reporting receiving the update to version 10.1.A.1.434 through the Sony PC companion app, however it seems the update isn’t rolling out for everyone just yet, and it’s not yet available directly on the device as an over-the-air update either. For our part, we haven’t received any update on the unlocked UK model we’ve been using.

There’s also no firm information on exactly what’s new in this update, though there’s speculation it might address the recently discovered “sleep of death” issue causing Sony Xperia Zs to randomly die. According to XDA forum reports, the latest firmware doesn’t fix the slow camera start-up times we pointed out in our Xperia Z review, which is unfortunate.

If you’ve got an Xperia Z in Europe, be sure to hit the comments and let us know if you’re seeing this latest firmware update.

The Padfone 2, which we know as the turducken of the mobile world, already got Jelly Bean 4.1.1 in December, so updates hence have naturally focused on the usual performance, stability, and other enhancements.
